We launch the Big Bore Six Day from the Crowne Plaza in Canberra and head straight towards the High Country. The ride south takes us through the rolling plains into Adaminaby before climbing into the alpine edge, where the terrain starts to open up and the adventure really begins. From Adaminaby, we trace the edge of the Talbingo Reservoir and Tumut River before climbing onto the spectacular Elliotts Way — a narrow, winding stretch of road high above the river valleys, offering unforgettable views and crisp mountain air. The flow continues with a descent through forest trails and into an awesome, undulating run down a powerline road! Rolling into Corryong, we take a moment to regroup, fill up and begin to tackle the last stretch into Albury through Pine Mountain and the lesser-travelled tracks of Mount Lawson, where the terrain shifts into open flowing roads, It’s a ride that keeps evolving with every kilometre. We finish the day with a scenic cruise alongside the Mitta Mitta River, chasing the flowing bends and golden light into Albury. After 475km, a well-earned rest, a good meal and a cold drink cap off a huge first day on the road!

Just down the road, we pass the tranquil Chinese Gardens, a nod to the area’s rich gold rush heritage, before pointing our bikes toward Glenrowan, home of the Big Ned Kelly statue and stories of the infamous outlaw. The trail south leads us through some tight and twisty gravel roads past the site of the Ned Kelly shootout, and then it's back into the dirt. A cracking run through forest country that opens up into scenic backroads as we make our way toward Mansfield. This part of the day blends flow and character, with the High Country unfolding in layers. We cap off the day with a ride along the Buttercup Trail, a beautifully undulating track that skirts the foothills of Mount Buller. With sweeping bends, dappled light, and wide-open views, it’s the perfect lead-in to our overnight stop at Merrijig, a laid-back alpine town that sets the tone for the mountain stages ahead.

A flowing ridgeline ride with expansive views and that raw, remote energy that defines this part of the world. The afternoon wraps with a climb toward Mount Buffalo, and then it’s all downhill into the alpine town of Bright. But the day doesn’t end when the bikes are parked. Tonight, it’s all about the now famous carpark party! Bikes lined up, dusty boots, cold drinks, good food and good yarns shared under the stars. Our morning kicks off with a run through Harrietville, quickly climbing into the mountains along the legendary Dargo High Plains Road! A bucket-list route that threads its way through wild alpine country and into the remote township of Dargo. Before dropping into Dargo, riders will have the opportunity to take on a breakout ride up the spine of the Blue Rag Range Track (depending on conditions) that leads to the famed Blue Rag Trig Point. It’s a short detour for the more experienced and skilled, but one that delivers some of the most spectacular views anywhere in Australia. After regrouping in Dargo, the ride continues through to Omeo before climbing onto the Benambra-Corryong Road, an expansive, scenic stretch of dirt that winds north through rolling alpine terrain. From here, we break off into a series of lesser-known high-country trails. These tracks are adventure-ready but friendly for all skill levels, linking up remote valleys and forest corridors as we approach the state border. As we cross the Murray River at Tom Groggin, then begin our final stretch on a sweeping, scenic run that leads us into Jindabyne. With alpine lakes on one side and the peaks of the Snowy Mountains on the other, we roll into Rydges Jindabyne — our home for the next two nights. With 400+km under the belt, today’s ride is one of contrasts. Alpine flow, technical climbs, iconic lookouts, and river crossings all capped off with a lakeside beer and a well-earned rest. We crack into it early, heading east out of town and covering ground fast as we make our way toward Bombala. The landscape shifts as the road stretches out to rolling hills, farmland, and long flowing sections that let you settle into a rhythm. From Bombala, we head further into the bush, making our way through Delegate and onto the rugged edge of the Snowy River country. This stretch is raw and remote, clinging to hillsides, cutting through deep bush and delivering those moments we crave! Eventually, we reach McKillops Bridge, a legendary timber crossing suspended over the Snowy River. It's a postcard moment — narrow, exposed, and utterly unforgettable. You can stop here to soak it all in, stretch the legs, and grab a few photos. Then it’s time to point north again and take on the iconic Barry Way. Carved into the cliffs high above the river, it’s a steady, winding climb that serves up staggering views at every turn. The ride builds and flows all the way back into Jindabyne, rolling in with 376km on the clock and one of the most scenic days of the trip behind us.

It’s a final taste of the unexpected, and a reminder of how much variety this route has delivered over the past six days. After Moruya, we turn inland and push through toward Captain’s Flat — an awesome stretch that keeps things interesting right to the end. The terrain begins to soften as we near the capital, and the sense of arrival starts to build. By the time we roll back into Canberra, it’s with 2,200+ kilometres under the tyres, a head full of memories, and that unmistakable feeling of having been part of something big.
